Vapour and air discharge noise generates unsteady aerodynamic processes in high-speed areas of the working medium flow. In the absence of silencers, there are two high velocity zones.
The first is directly downstream of the discharge valve, where a developed turbulent flow is formed. Due to the limited diameter of the discharge pipe, the pressure behind the valve remains higher than atmospheric pressure and the final expansion of the working medium is carried out in a free jet behind the outlet cross-section of the pipeline - behind the second zone of noise generation.Accordingly, when developing a typical working scheme of a steam and air discharge silencer, two main functions are realised: maximum noise suppression through the organisation of low-noise low-speed flow throttling and isolation of the noise generated in the flow control zone on the way to its dispersal.
