It is intended for use as a solvent in the paint and varnish industry, as well as for synthesis of various organic products, production of reagents, etc.

Depending on the method of obtaining butyl alcohol is divided into synthetic alcohol obtained by oxosynthesis and aldolisation of acetaldehyde (grade A), alcohol obtained by fermentation (grade B).
